Bayern Munich want Liverpool’s 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, but the latest Liverpool news out of Anfield is plain and simple. The Reds are not selling him this summer and everyone at the club knows it.
Bayern Munich register interest in Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha
As reported by The Athletic, Bayern Munich have registered their interest in Rio Ngumoha, though no formal contact has been made between the two clubs at this stage. Bayern see him as a top target and want to get this done fast. Ngumoha is out in Florida with England’s World Cup camp right now, and sources close to him say he knows all about how keen Bayern are.
As reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern had actually struck a verbal deal with Ngumoha’s camp just weeks ago, but that agreement fell through and both sides are now back to where they started.
Ngumoha’s 2025/26 stats, as per FotMob:
Competition Appearances Goals Assists
Premier League 19 2 1
FA Cup 4 0 0
UCL 4 0 0
Liverpool make their position on Rio Ngumoha clear
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have seen Ngumoha as untouchable for several months now, and that view has not changed one bit. Ngumoha got his first taste of Premier League football in August 2025 and made it count straight away, scoring a late winner in a 3-2 win at Newcastle United. In fact, he went on to play 19 games in all competitions that season, chipping in with two goals and one assist along the way, as per transfermarkt.
He had broken into the first team even before that, starting a 4-0 FA Cup win over Accrington in January 2025 under former manager Arne Slot. Rio was just 16 years and 135 days old that day, and no kid has ever been younger to start an FA Cup tie for Liverpool, as confirmed by the club’s official website.
Chelsea hold a 20 percent sell-on clause in any future Ngumoha deal
As reported by the BBC, Ngumoha walked away from Chelsea’s academy in September 2024 and joined Liverpool almost straight away, putting pen to paper on his first pro contract at the club in September 2025. A tribunal ruled in February 2026 that the Reds must hand Chelsea a minimum of £2.8 million for the winger, and that figure could climb all the way up to around £5 million if Liverpool hit certain performance targets along the way.
Chelsea will also take 20 percent of any future sell-on fee if Ngumoha leaves. Chelsea’s frustration did not stop there either. The Blues banned Liverpool scouts from attending their youth fixtures after the move, claiming the whole transaction had been handled improperly. Liverpool are also keen to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, and if that move goes through, Ngumoha will face more competition for his spot in the team next season. Liverpool’s answer to Bayern, though, is not going to change.
Liverpool see Ngumoha as a key part of their plans for next season, and Andoni Iraola will surely want to build his attack around the teenager out wide. The 17-year-old has also caught the eye at international level, earning his place in England’s senior World Cup prep camp in Florida this summer.
Author’s Opinion
The latest Liverpool news is simple and Ngumoha is not leaving Anfield any time soon this summer. He just turned 17 in March, yet Bayern Munich chasing a kid with fewer than 30 senior games to his name tells you a lot about how hot his stock has become across Europe. The football world is clearly taking note of just how good Ngumoha can be.
