Today (June 9) is the day NBA The Run releases worldwide. The new basketball title from developers & publishers Play by Play Studios offers something different to the likes of 2K’s popular NBA series, bringing the game to the streets with fast-paced action while retaining a host of familiar faces in the form of pro players.
Along with its release on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, the game is also available on PC via Steam. Everything points towards a simultaneous global launch on all platforms, so no need to worry about different launch times – nor attempt the ‘New Zealand trick’ to try and get access early. The game has already been available to try out via a limited-time beta playtest.

What does NBA The Run offer?
NBA The Run takes iconic NBA players to the streets. Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant, just to name a few. It’s a multiplayer 3v3 title with unlockable ‘Street Legends’ for players to play as and progress with plenty of customization to enjoy. Each character has unique stats and attributes to cater to a wide range of playstyles.
To spice things up, the game features a handful of game modifiers to keep gameplay fresh between matches with randomized rulesets. These include changes to the scoring system, such as dunks only or a focus on 3-pointers – forcing players to adapt their playstyle, ideally switching between characters to make the most of the changes.
It offers cross-platform matchmaking and is priced at $29.99 for the base version. Deluxe Edition ups the price to $39.99 and includes three exclusive ‘rookie’ variants (Stephen Curry Warriors ’09, Luka Dončić Mavericks ’18, and Kevin Durant SuperSonics ’07), along with 1000 CRED of in-game currency.
