Club desperately working on new deal to stop Liverpool signing their "amazing" young player

Andoni Iraola could get a reunion with one of his Bournemouth stars sooner than he thought, with Liverpool now leading the race to sign an impressive player.

Liverpool plotting move for Premier League ace

The Reds have got quite the task ahead of them this summer. They went from organised, clinical Premier League champions under Arne Slot to a side full of hesitation and doubt, leading to the Dutchman's demise and the arrival of Iraola.

Those at Anfield hope that the arrival of the former Bournemouth boss can reignite the type of football that Jurgen Klopp made famous, with a pinch of Basque flavour.

It's why Yan Diomande has emerged as a leading target and why the new manager could get an instant reunion with one of his former stars.

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are now frontrunners to sign Alex Scott this summer after the midfielder enjoyed an excellent campaign on the South Coast, but the Cherries are desperate to keep hold of him.

The Englishman has a big decision to make this summer. Bournemouth are set to table a new deal and are strongly considering the inclusion of a release clause, replicating the method they used to keep Antoine Semenyo until Man City made their January move.

The winger departed for a hefty £65m and Scott could cost a similar price if he signs a new deal. Whether he puts pen to paper amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United remains to be seen, however.

"Amazing" Scott can replace Jones at Liverpool

Scott's not the only English midfielder who could be on the move this summer. Inter Milan have made their intentions clear regarding Curtis Jones and he has already asked Federico Chiesa about life in Italy. At this stage, even the arrival of Iraola may not be enough to prevent a departure.

If that is the case, then Scott makes perfect sense. He was the chief ball progressor under Iraola at Bournemouth and took up the role that Jones may receive if he stays put. It would, therefore, come as no shock if the knock-on effect of Jones' departure is the arrival of the 22-year-old.

It almost goes without saying that Iraola is a fan. He was full of praise for Scott back in April, describing his performance against Arsenal as "amazing", and could be about to get an instant reunion.
