Randy Moss’ Zippered Jordan Sneaker From the 2000s Is Making a Comeback

Together with Derek Jeter and Roy Jones Jr. in 1999, Randy Moss formed the first trio of athletes outside of the NBA to sign with Jordan Brand. Even though it wasn’t initially part of the plan, the wide receiver got his own signature sneaker a year later — and the shoe is now slated for its first return with its original name.

The Jordan Super Freak is slated to release in spring 2027, according to a report from Sneaker Files. Jordan Brand previously brought back the shoe in 2010 but with the name Cover 3 because Moss was no longer affiliated with the company. Consequentially, Moss’ no. 84 was also swapped out on the tongue in favor of Michael Jordan’s no. 23.

No photos have been revealed yet for next year’s release, but the reversion to the name Super Freak suggests the original details should return as well.

Moss was involved in the design process for the Super Freak, and the name was also his idea because his athleticism had earned him the moniker since he was in high school. The high-tops were essentially created as high-top basketball shoes with nubs tailored to astroturf, and a zippered tongue features an additional velcro layer at the top.

Speaking to Andscape in 2017 for a feature on the shoe, Moss said: “You still got guys out there wearing Jordans, but it started with me. I don’t know who it’s going to end with, but I am happy to say that I did start that trend.”

Today, Jordan Brand’s NFL roster includes Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Bryce Young, Puka Nacua, Pat Surtain, Maxx Crosby and even Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

The Jordan Super Freak will release in spring 2027 through Jordan Brand’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $165.
