Why Donald Trump isn’t attending NBA Finals Game 4 after ruining Knicks’ 13-game streak

On Monday evening, the New York Knicks dropped a game for the first time in over a month with a Game 3 loss against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. In attendance for this game was US President Donald Trump, whose presence caused a massive increase in security and a headache for everyone trying to get into Madison Square Garden on time.

Thankfully, fans won't have to worry about a similar inconvenience for Game 4.

“President Donald Trump is not expected to attend Game 4 of Knicks-Spurs in the NBA Finals on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden due to scheduling conflicts and obligations, sources tell ESPN. Trump, a lifelong Knicks fan, watched the majority of Game 3 from a suite,” reported ESPN NBA insider on X, formerly Twitter.

Trump had previously said he “might do both,” in regards to Games 3 and 4, per Josh Meyer of USA Today.

Security blocked off an entire area of New York City surrounding the Garden earlier in the day on Monday in anticipation of Trump's arrival and began heavily vetting anyone entering the area. Charania himself reported on “NBA Today” that he had been stopped by the Secret Service after dropping an AirPod.

However, that didn't stop fans from packing Madison Square Garden early for this game, which was the first Knicks NBA Finals home game this century. Unfortunately, New York got off to a sluggish start to this one, seeming to be more rattled by the atmosphere than the visiting Spurs were, and although they took control of the game by halftime, they were unable to carry that momentum into the second half.

Game 4 is set for Wednesday night.
