Rio Ngumoha, currently at a preparation camp as a supplementary member of the England squad, is aware of interest from Germany, with Bayern Munich linked with a move for the Englishman.

Liverpool insist the 17-year-old is not for sale and view him as an important part of their first-team plans in an area they are looking to strengthen.

Ngumoha will leave the England camp this week after impressing Thomas Tuchel and his staff. Although not part of England’s 26-man squad, he was named man-of-the-match on his debut as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 1-0 World Cup warm-up win over New Zealand.

The teenager will now go on holiday before returning to the United States next month for Liverpool’s pre-season tour.

Ngumoha scored twice, including a late winner in a 3-2 victory at Newcastle United on his Premier League debut in August, and registered one assist during the 2025-26 campaign.

He made his senior debut under former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot in a 4-0 FA Cup win over Accrington in January 2025, becoming the club’s youngest player to start a match at 16 years and 135 days.

According to BBC Sport, there was some dissatisfaction over his game time under Slot, although Liverpool maintained they were managing his development carefully given the physical and mental demands of senior football.

Any frustrations Ngumoha may have had over game time last season could be eased by changes at Liverpool, including the departure of Mohamed Salah and the arrival of Arne Slot’s successor, Andoni Iraola.

The former Bournemouth boss has shown a willingness to trust young players, with Eli Junior Kroupi, Rayan, and Dean Huijsen among those to benefit from his approach.

Liverpool remain keen to ensure Ngumoha continues the progress he has shown internationally by making a similar impact under the new club manager when he arrives in July.

Ngumoha, who has represented England at various youth levels, left Chelsea’s academy in September 2024 to join Liverpool and signed his first professional contract a year later.

In February 2026, a tribunal ruled that Liverpool must pay Chelsea at least £2.8m for the winger. The fee could rise through add-ons, with Chelsea also due 20% of any future profit from a sale.
