There has been plenty of former Liverpool faces that have left Manchester City this off-season, but there may be a transfer going the other way to Anfield.

Former Jurgen Klopp assistant Pep Lijnders has the club. Manchester City offered Lijnders a new contract to remain as part of the backroom staff, but he has turned it down.

Meanwhile, former Reds defender Kolo Toure also left the club as part of Pep Guardiola’s summer exodus. And with Enzo Maresca poised to take over, he may already have a transfer dilemma on his hands early on in his tenure.

Reliable Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower has revealed that the Anfield club is keen on Manchester City and England u16 midfielder Xavier Parker and have been keeping tabs on his development:

“It seems we might expect some rotation in personnel between the three big north-west clubs. Manchester United could add a Liverpool academy player to their scholarship group, potentially two while Liverpool, may, might, could, exacerbate Manchester City’s misery of missing out on Josh Abe by adding a gem,” he reported.

“Liverpool are admirers of Manchester City and England U16 midfielder Xavier Parker and have been monitoring his situation. Lead to believe a move is possible and could happen.”

Manchester City list Parker as a creative midfielder, and the club’s official player page says he has progressed into the Under-18s for the 2025/26 season.

Parker is described as one of the most exciting U16 talents in England after joining City from West Ham in 2024, and is widely regarded as one of top talents in his position for his age group. It would explain why City snapped him up at U14 level already.

He actually scored against the Liverpool U18 side in March, scoring the third goal in a 3-0 win for the Cityzens. He was also part of the City side that won the most recent FA Youth Cup, beating rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the final played on May 14.
