Loris Karius has signed a new contract with Schalke 04, the club have officially confirmed. His new deal will keep him at the club until June 30, 2028.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper has revived his career since joining Schalke in 2025 and played a key role in the club’s return to the Bundesliga.
The 32-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign, keeping 13 clean sheets in 30 appearances as Schalke secured the 2. Bundesliga title and promotion back to Germany’s top flight.
“With his consistently strong performances, Loris has made a significant contribution to our success as a reliable pillar of the team,” said Schalke sporting director Youri Mulder.
“The squad can count on him. In close matches in particular, he has made the difference on numerous occasions with crucial saves and secured vital points.”
Karius said he had no hesitation in committing his future to the club. “Last season showed what we can achieve as a team through unity, energy and focus,” he explained.
“That is why I have decided, with complete conviction, to extend my contract. I’m really looking forward to the new season and returning to the Bundesliga.”
Karius andSchalke 04 are due to return for pre-season training on July 5 ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The club’s first competitive fixture of the new season will be an away trip to Hallescher in the first round of the DFB-Pokal between 21 and 24 August, before beginning their first Bundesliga season since 2022/23 the following weekend.
Karius joined Schalke in January 2025 and has made 35 competitive appearances for the Royal Blues. The former Germany youth international has featured in 285 senior matches during his career, including 95 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz 05 andUnion Berlin.
He made his professional debut for Mainz in December 2012 and enjoyed the most notable spell of his career at Liverpool.
He helped the Reds reach the 2018 UEFA Champions League final, starting all 13 matches in the competition that season.
Karius made two costly errors in a 3-1 defeat – a match that proved to be his final appearance for Liverpool. He later had loan spells at Beşiktasand Union Berlin before leaving permanently in 2022.
