Bengals make $10 million Joe Burrow contract restructure decision

The Cincinnati Bengals have made a lot of changes this offseason to the roster, with the bulk of those moves coming on the defensive side of the ball.

While they signed Boye Mafe, Jonathan Allen, and Bryan Cook, the team's biggest move was the trade and extension for Dexter Lawrence. He's the anchor of the defensive line and is a huge pickup for the Bengals defense.

After those moves, and as minicamp gets underway, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Joe Burrow and the Bengals have agreed to a $10 million contract restructuring to give the team some much-needed cap space.

Joe Burrow, Bengals agree to restructured contract to free-up $10M in cap space

"The Bengals have restructured the contract of QB Joe Burrow, per me and @AdamSchefter, creating $10M in cap room," Rapoport reports.

This contract decision from the Bengals and Burrow helps give them the extra bit of flexibility they need to no longer be at the bottom of the league when it comes to cap space.

Whether it's to sign a free agent or two, swing another trade, or simply just to have in their back pocket, the Bengals have cleared up $10 million in cap space.

That's not an insignificant amount, as Cincinnati now has a lot more flexibility to make moves thanks to this move.

Rapoport also notes that this move was done in part to need some extra money for the Lawrence deal.

Overall, while this is a contract restructuring for Burrow, there is no long-term impact, as this is strictly for accounting and team-building purposes ahead of a very important 2026 season.
