The New England Patriots started mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and head coach Mike Vrabel revealed which players were there.
Before the Patriots took the field, Vrabel spoke to the media. There were some questions about whether Christian Gonzalez would attend the mandatory minicamp amid his search for a contract extension. However, Vrabel revealed that every player under contract is in attendance.
"Everybody under contract is here and accounted for," Vrabel told reporters. "As it relates to practice, everyone will have a different plan at practice. Some guys will be full, some guys will be limited and some guys will work on the lower field. It's been a good day. Much better than yesterday when they weren't here."
Without naming every player, Vrabel confirmed that Gonzalez is in attendance. When the offseason began, both he and the organization expressed interest in getting an extension done. No deal is in place yet, but he is still under contract.
He is fulfilling his obligation to the team by showing up to minicamp after not attending OTAs. However, just because he is there does not mean he will practice and risk injury. The two sides could be close on a deal, and it would make sense if he were not a full participant until he has signed an extension.
