49ers' biggest question for Brock Purdy in 2026 is a fun WR issue

The San Francisco 49ers made the playoffs last year and beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round, but the team had a ton of issues all across the roster. Just making it to the NFC Divisional Round was impressive.

Going from the 2025 season into the 2026 season, there are a lot of question marks about the team as a whole, with the defensive side of the ball, which recorded just 20 sacks last year, a huge issue. But the wide receiver room is also a big issue for the 49ers.

ESPN's Dan Graziano pointed to the 49ers' new-look WR corps as the biggest question the 49ers offense and Brock Purdy are facing entering 2026. But this issue is actually a fun one, as the uncertainty about the WR room is a good thing this season.

49ers have fun WR question for Brock Purdy's offense in 2026

"How will Brock Purdy's new WR corps shake out?" Graziano writes. "... It's an interesting collection of receivers with a lot of talent and a variety of potential roles."

Looking ahead to 2026, the 49ers' wide receiver room is going to be very different from what it was a season ago. Only two notable receivers are returning, with Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson coming back.

But, with Jauan Jennings signing with the Minnesota Vikings, Kendrick Bourne signing with the Arizona Cardinals, and Brandon Aiyuk all but certainly getting cut this offseason, there were a lot of holes to fill.

The 49ers made one of the more fun signings of the offseason, adding Mike Evans, a potential future Hall of Famer, on a multi-year deal, while also bringing in veteran receiver Christian Kirk and drafting De'Zhuan Stribling 33rd overall.

This new-look WR room is drawing a lot of questions about how good it can actually be, but unlike some other questions teams around the league are facing, this is a very fun one for the 49ers.

It's not a question of whether there's enough talent, but rather who of this group emerges as the leader of the WR room, and how many of these interesting options can turn into impact players for the 49ers and Purdy in 2026.

This is a fun offense for Kyle Shanahan once again, and with George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey, along with the new-look WR room, Purdy should have all he needs to help lead this offense to being one of, if not the best in the NFL in 2026.
