Patriots' Christian Gonzalez Makes Clear Where He Wants To Play Amid Contract Dispute

The New England Patriots in Christian Gonzalez came into the offseason expressing interest in getting an extension done, but nothing has been agreed to yet.

Mandatory minicamp started on Tuesday, and many were curious if Gonzalez would even show up. Well, he was in attendance, but according to MassLive's Mark Daniels, he did not participate in team drills. He did individual work and walkthroughs, and he appears to be in a "hold in" while he awaits a new deal.

Gonzalez is one of the best corners in the league and has earned a payday. He spoke on the state of negotiations after practice and noted that it's up to his agent and the Patriots to figure something out. He clarified that his contract obligates him to attend minicamp, so he is present, but he still wants to get a new deal figured out.

Gonzalez was asked whether he still wants to be a Patriot and if his feelings have changed amid his search for an extension. He made it very clear where he wants to play.

"Of course I want to be here," Gonzalez told reporters in a video posted by Daniels. "I've said this multiple times. I've been drafted here. I want to be rewarded as a Patriot, and I love this town. I love this city, so of course I want to be here."

Gonzalez's feelings toward the Patriots have not seemed to change. He wants to be a Patriot, but he is looking out for himself as well. He wants to be paid, and it's up to the team to make that happen for one of their best players.
