Jose Alvarado fired a warning and called out Victor Wembanyama for his questionable antics against Jalen Brunson in Game 3.
Jose Alvarado made it clear that Victor Wembanyama crossed the line out of his viral, questionable and unassessed action against Jalen Brunson during Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals.
San Antonio Spurs / Schedule
The New York Knicks guard called out the French superstar for his reckless play on Brunson, sending a stern warning against Wembanyama on Tuesday.
“I think that’s not basketball,” Alvarado told reporters after the Knicks' team practice, per Zach Braziller of the New York Post.
“That’s something that they gotta look at. But he got away with one. That’ll be the last one.”
Victor Wembanyama commits cheap shot vs Jalen Brunson in Game 3
Things got chippy between Brunson and Wembanyama at the start of last Monday's Game 3, where the San Antonio Spurs prevailed with a 115-111 victory.
Tangled with each other with over four minutes left in the opening period, Wembanyama suddenly shoved Brunson hard, forcing the Knicks superstar to go down and touch the ground.
Brunson was visibly upset as he immediately confronted Wembanyama over the cheap shot he received, but the big man only flashed a brief smirk on his face as his reaction. Interestingly, the play was never stopped and the officials did not review Wembanyama's push.
In his postgame presser, Brunson kept it simple as he addressed the incident with Wembanyama.
“Whatever you saw is what you saw,” he told the media.
NBA now reviewing a potential Flagrant play vs Wembanyama
Appearing on ESPN, Monty McCutchen, the NBA's head of officiating, claimed that a foul should have been called on Wembanyama for pushing Brunson during Game 3. He added that the league is reviewing the play to determine whether a flagrant foul should be assessed retroactively.
Wembanyama had already been handed a Flagrant 2 foul back in the second round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves after delivering a brutal elbow against Naz Reid.
That play triggered two penalty points. Once he reaches four, the Spurs center will automatically get punished with a one-game suspension, which would certainly deliver massive implications in the ongoing Finals series.
