Trae Young is deeply motivated to let everybody know that he remains one of the NBA's best and prove that the Wizards are a legitimate team.
Trae Young cannot wait any longer to play the 2026-27 NBA season for him and the Washington Wizards to prove their doubters wrong.
Appearing on The Pivot podcast, the star guard is simply fired up about being underestimated by many after recent years of struggles and shortcomings, as he is fully looking forward to playing a full season with his new team.
“This is the most slept on I’ve been in my whole life,” Young said during a recent appearance on “The Pivot” podcast. “I know there’s a lot of recency bias when it comes to media. Imagine the Wizards are the No. 1 team in the East next year. What are people going to be saying?
“I haven’t played very much in a year and a half because of some injuries, the trade, things like that. But trust me, I’m just entering my prime.”
Trae Young, Wizards eye season of revelation
From being one of the league's brightest stars, Young hit rock bottom this 2025-26 as he was dealt away by the Atlanta Hawks ahead of the trade deadline to D.C.
Primarily, Young struggled to stay healthy. He battled quad and MCL issues, limiting him to just 15 appearances with lowly average numbers of 17.9 points in 25.6 minutes.
He and the Wizards have earned a 17-win finish, which stood as the worst in the entire NBA this past regular season.
Now fully healthy with Anthony Davis and armed with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Young and the Wizards are projected to be one of the league’s most intriguing teams heading into next season.
Indeed, a combination of young talent and veteran presence positions Washington to potentially break into the NBA’s elite tier in 2026-27.
