MarShawn Lloyd entered the Green Bay Packers’ offseason determined to solve the injury problems that have slowed the start of his NFL career. After an extensive evaluation process, the young running back believes he has finally identified the root cause that contributed to the setbacks that limited his availability during his first season with the team.
Lloyd traced many of his physical issues back to the torn ACL he suffered while playing at South Carolina. Although he recovered well enough to continue his football journey and eventually reach the NFL, he now believes lingering imbalances created by the injury affected the way his body moved and responded to the demands of professional football. Those compensations may have placed additional strain on other areas, contributing to recurring setbacks.

The former third-round pick spent the offseason working closely with specialists to better understand how his body functioned following the injury. Through that process, he discovered weaknesses that had not been fully addressed during previous stages of recovery. Lloyd said the focus shifted toward strengthening his quadriceps and building greater overall stability throughout his body to eliminate the need for compensatory movement patterns.
The Packers have remained encouraged by Lloyd’s commitment to finding answers. Coaches and team personnel have long viewed him as an explosive playmaker capable of adding another dimension to the offense. His combination of speed, vision and versatility made him a highly regarded prospect, but staying healthy has been the biggest obstacle preventing him from establishing a consistent role in Green Bay’s backfield.

Lloyd recently talked about his injuries and what he thinks is the cause for them. This can be seen in an article by Wes Hodkiewicz for the team’s official website.
Their belief is the former third-round pick’s issues may stem from the torn ACL Lloyd suffered early during his time at the University of South Carolina.
“Overcompensating, back to all the way from college, my ACL, just things that didn’t get the strength they needed,” Lloyd said. “I had to re-evaluate that, get my quads stronger, get my whole body stronger, honestly. I’ve been able to go to him, get those things figured out. It’s been really good.”
With a full offseason dedicated to rebuilding strength and correcting underlying issues, Lloyd enters training camp with renewed confidence. Rather than simply treating symptoms, he believes he is now addressing the foundation of the problem. That mindset has helped him approach preparation differently while providing optimism that his body can withstand the rigors of an NFL season.
The Packers are counting on increased competition and depth at running back as they prepare for the upcoming campaign. If Lloyd’s assessment proves accurate and the corrective work delivers lasting results, Green Bay could finally see the talented runner perform at the level that made him such an intriguing draft selection. For Lloyd, the offseason has been about more than recovery. It has been about creating a path toward sustained availability and unlocking the potential that injuries have kept hidden.
