With the Broncos handing the bulk of the offensive play-calling responsibilities to new coordinator Davis Webb, some changes to the team’s attack should be expected.
“There’s obviously some changes, different terminologies that we all gotta get used to,” left tackle Garett Bolles said when he joined NFL Network’s The Insiders for a conversation earlier this week.
But they’re not overwhelming.

“I mean, the nice thing is our offense hasn’t changed too much, right? Just because they want to keep it as similar as possible,” Bolles said.

And that’s part of why Webb has won over Bolles.
“I love Davis Webb,” Bolles said. “He’s young. He’s been in the league before. He knows exactly what we go through on a regular basis.
“… He’s also played quarterback in this league, and to play quarterback in this league, it’s not an easy task at all. And there’s so many different little things that you didn’t really realize when you hear from a quarterback who’s your OC. So seeing that, hearing that and being a part of that is special.”

HOW MIGHT THE BRONCOS’ OFFENSE LOOK DIFFERENT WITH WEBB CALLING PLAYS?
That’s the major question, because Webb has scant play-calling experience to his name. He called the offense during a preseason game last August against the Arizona Cardinals, but that was without Bo Nix at quarterback and with nearly all of the starters resting on the sideline after a joint practice two days earlier.
Head coach Sean Payton made a point at the NFL Scouting Combine of noting that he wasn’t completely giving up 100 percent of the play-calling. So, Payton will have an influence. It’s his offense.
But Webb will have Jaylen Waddle at his disposal. And given Webb’s longstanding relationship with tight end Evan Engram — the two were part of the same draft class with the New York Giants in 2017 — he might be able to wring more out of the 10-year veteran tight end than the Broncos did last year.

“Obviously, Coach Payton did a phenomenal job. He’s one of the best to ever do it in this league. And he’s going to be right there cheering us on and doing everything that we need to do to get right,” Bolles said.
“But I love him, I love Davis Webb, and I’m just really excited to see what this team can do. We have everything going for us in all four quarters, and we just got to continue to get this car, continue to move and let this truck do what it does.
“And so, I’m excited — I’m looking forward to this season and seeing what we can do.”
A successful season for the offense might make Webb the hottest coaching commodity in the sport. But until the offense crystallizes and until we get a glimpse at how Webb calls plays in pressure situations, there will be an unknown quantity about the Broncos’ offense.
Still, within the locker room, confidence in Webb soars.
