TV host blasts ‘total garbage’ referee excuse for Knicks Game 3 loss to Spurs

New York sports media always tells it like it is, and John Jastremski just unleashed a major reality check for New York Knicks fans looking for excuses.

Following a grueling 115-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the tri-state area erupted in frustration over the officiating. Even Knicks head coach Mike Brown voiced his frustration, pointing heavily to a staggering second-half free-throw disparity where San Antonio shot 24 free throws compared to New York’s eight. The Spurs finished the night shooting 25-of-32 from the stripe, while the Knicks went 18-of-22.

However, Jastremski is absolutely not buying the referee narrative.

“I got sick and tired running into Knick fans throughout all of the tri-state area for goodness sakes… telling me, ‘oh, we lost this game because of the officials,'” Jastremski said on SNY with Niki Lattarulo. “That's absolute nonsense. That's total garbage. You have to take care of the basketball. You have to play faster. You need better ball movement.”

Jastremski’s take mirrors the postgame comments of Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns, who refused to blame the whistle. Towns struggled to find his rhythm, finishing with just 11 points, while Mikal Bridges was held to a mere two points.

Meanwhile, Jalen Brunson’s brilliant 32-point effort was countered by Victor Wembanyama, who absolutely dominated Madison Square Garden with 32 points, eight rebounds, and six assists to keep San Antonio alive. Rookie Stephon Castle also chipped in 23 points, helping the Spurs snap New York's historic 13-game postseason winning streak.

Blaming the refs is easy, but the Knicks ultimately doomed themselves by stalling out offensively and letting the Spurs dictate the pace in the second half. If New York wants to secure a 3-1 series lead in Game 4, they must stop complaining and start taking care of business.
