Premier League transfer news latest as Liverpool, Man United and Leeds eye summer deals
We’re just a day away from the 2026 World Cup kicking off in North America, and excitement is reaching fever pitch ahead of the tournament opener between Mexico and South Africa. With 104 matches played over 39 days, it’s set to be a feast of international football. The jury’s still out on whether it’s worth staying up until 2am to watch the likes of New Zealand vs Iran, however.

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs are moving fast to get some early business done, mindful that hundreds of elite players will have their attention elsewhere for the next few weeks. Man United are surging ahead with their midfield rebuild, Tottenham are snapping up a host of free agents, and Liverpool are genuinely considering spending over £100m on a teenager.
Today’s transfer rumours round-up begins at Old Trafford, where Man United are ploughing ahead with their summer plans after fighting back under Michael Carrick in the second half of last season and qualifying for the Champions League. They’ve already bagged Ederson from Atalanta, and are now looking to sign him a midfield partner.
A fresh report from Caught Offside says that their rumoured target, West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, is unlikely to pick his next move based on who can offer the most money, but will instead look for a side offering him a key role in an “ambitious team”, amid further interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The story goes on to note that while the Hammers’ alleged asking price of £80m may be too steep for United, they remain a “logical destination”, given Carrick’s great need to sign another midfielder and the fact that Fernandes would most likely be a regular starter should he move to Old Trafford.
The 3AM Verdict: West Ham really have to sell this summer, and Fernandes would be an excellent addition for United, who have notably changed their transfer strategy to sign proven Premier League players - no more Antony from Ajax for £80m. He’d have his fellow countryman and namesake Bruno Fernandes to ease him into life at Old Trafford, and while the report says money isn’t everything for the 21-year-old, the Red Devils pay packet should be generous enough to ensure he doesn’t starve.
Leeds United have hijack opportunity
Over to Elland Road, where Leeds United are looking to forge ahead this summer and continue their mission to become an established Premier League powerhouse once again, after avoiding the drop last season. According to Sport Witness, the Whites could be set to sneak in and sign Tromso defender Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh, as German side Koln wait for funds to complete a move themselves.
The 3AM Verdict: Sedi Kinteh is only 19-years-old, and highly regarded around Europe as a top talent for the future. He’d only cost Leeds about £5m, which isn’t bad for a promising player who was linked with Man United earlier this year. They’d do well to nip in while they can and get the deal done.
Liverpool ‘favourites’ to sign Bournemouth gem
We’ll finish things off at Anfield, where Liverpool are looking to bounce back next season under new manager Andoni Iraola, following the sacking of Arne Slot at the end of last season. The new manager has built a reputation for playing dazzling football in the Premier League, and the Reds are expected to keep spending this summer despite shelling out over £400m on new players last season.
Team Talk report that Iraola is keen to bring his former star player at Bournemouth to Anfield: England U21 midfielder Alex Scott. The 22-year-old, who is currently training out in Florida with the Three Lions despite not being part of their 26-man World Cup squad, could remain with the Cherries, with the club desperate to tie him down to a new deal.
The story goes on to suggest that Bournemouth could demand a similar fee to the one quoted to Manchester City for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson - somewhere in the region of £100m. Liverpool are said to be the current front-runners to sign Scott, but it remains to be seen how much they’d be willing to pay to bring him on board.
The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool’s main priority this summer is replacing Mohamed Salah, which is likely to cost them a serious amount of money. The Reds showed last season that they’re not afraid to spend big, but anything over £60m-£70m for Scott would be a sizeable gamble. They should look for a cheaper alternative, unless the Cherries can be haggled down.
