NBA insider Brian Windhorst says there is currently a "51% chance" LeBron James returns to the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James' offseason decision is one of the most intriguing developing stories in the NBA.

So far, there has been no certainty regarding what LeBron will decide to do with his career, with both extending his career and retiring still on the table.

However, most NBA people believe he will return for Season 24 of his career, though the team he will play for next season remains a question mark.

Lakers, Warriors, and Cavaliers linked with LeBron

So far, three teams have been mentioned as the most likely landing spots for LeBron if he decides to return for another year.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Cleveland Cavaliers all have their arguments for potentially bringing in LeBron for what will most likely be his last season in the league. However, right now, one team is considered at least a slight favorite to sign one of the best players in history.

Windhorst gives Lakers slight edge

According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Lakers remain favorites to land LeBron James, with Windhorst giving them a 51% chance of keeping him with the franchise. However, he says he would watch out for the Warriors if the situation in Los Angeles doesn't work out.

"If it doesn't work out with the Lakers, I'd watch the Warriors," Windhorst said on The Pat McAfee Show.

"I know that everybody loves the idea of LeBron in Cleveland. Cleveland needs perimeter defense. I mean, it'll be a great story. You know, he would definitely help them. Cleveland needs interior toughness and perimeter defense. And LeBron can do some of that, but I don't know, man.

"Also, that would require LeBron to play for $3 million. And I don't want to spend his money. If he wants to play for $3 million, he can do it. But until I hear from Rich Paul that LeBron is ready to play for $3 million, I'm not going to believe it.

"I'd watch Golden State. He played with Steph Curry and Steve Kerr on the Olympics. You know he's close with Draymond Green. I mean, so I still think it's Lakers. I say 51% Lakers, and then we'll see," he added.

LeBron still producing at high level

Even at this stage of his career, James continues to produce strong numbers. In his 23rd NBA season, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 51.5% from the field across 60 appearances.
