Divock Origi has quit professional football at the age of 31 and has decided to follow two very different career paths.

For many fans, Origi will be remembered for his legendary goals for Liverpool, especially against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final and in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.

But now, having decided that he has achieved all that he wanted from the game, he is ready for the next stage of his life.

One option might be considered the more conventional. He is moving into football agency and management, aiming to help and represent players.

But the other is unexpected, as he wants to study fashion at an advanced level and build a career in that industry.

This is no random choice. During his career, Origi had a reputation for being interested in style, music, and creative pursuits away from football. Nor is it entirely disconnected from the sport as it might have been 20 years ago.

Modern footballers have become major figures in fashion culture. Examples include the former Arsenal full-back Héctor Bellerín, who is known for his extensive involvement in fashion (as well as sustainability), and Jules Koundé, whose matchday outfits regularly are the subject of media attention.

And perhaps the prime example is David Beckham, who built a substantial post-playing presence in luxury fashion and lifestyle branding.

Fashion houses increasingly see elite athletes as cultural ambassadors rather than merely sports stars.

But what is different in this case is that Origi ultimately wants to be able to design the clothes, not just model them.
