Inter Milan remain interested in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with Cristian Chivu seeing him as Inter’s version of Scott McTominay.
Corriere dello Sport report that the Liverpool midfielder is a ‘not-so-hidden’ desire for the Inter Milan manager this summer.
Liverpool midfielder liked
The Inter boss has made it clear several times this season that he wants to bring his team as close to the intensity of Premier League football as possible.
He believes that football is moving in that direction and wants to adapt. The plan is to target signings for that idea and the Nerazzurri believe Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is a suitable candidate. The belief is that €25m will get a deal done.
He ‘captivated’ Chivu when the two sides played in the Champions League a few months ago. Inter like that he’s accustomed to playing in the Premier League, believing he could use that experience to get the consistent in Serie A that he’s lacked at Anfield.
The feeling at the Italian champions is that he could have a similar impact to the one Scott McTominay has had at Napoli.
Inter have experience of such signings too. They benefitted greatly when signing from Romelu Lukaku’s arrival from Manchester United, for example. The good taste from that experience is ‘still alive’.
What will Liverpool do?
The question is whether Liverpool want to sell at this point. Curtis Jones had appeared destined to leave this summer following an apparent falling out with Arne Slot.
But the Dutch coach has now left Anfield and been replaced by Andoni Iraola. The Spanish coach may have very different plans for his midfield than his predecessor.
In fact, Iraola may value the ‘exuberance and athleticism’ that Inter Milan also value for his high-energy, pressing style of play. It’s yet to be determined what Liverpool’s plans for their squad is, despite an overhaul being expected.
Inter Milan are keen, though, if they decide Jones is not a part of their plans. And that interest is being driven by Cristian Chivu.
