Celtics’ Jaylen Brown reacts to Trae Young’s bold claim about East takeover

Jaylen Brown is no stranger to criticism. The Boston Celtics star has been arguably one of the most talked-about players in the league for quite a long time now. Brown is also extremely outspoken and is not afraid to talk about his critics. As a former president of the NBA Players' Association, Brown has also defended some of his peers on occasion.

Brown once again went to bat for a colleague of his. Recently, Washington Wizards point guard Trae Young said that he feels he's the most slept-on player in the league.

“This is the most slept-on I’ve been in my whole life,” Young said. “I know there’s a lot of recency bias when it comes to media. Imagine the Wizards are the No. 1 team in the East next year. What are people going to be saying?”

“I haven’t played very much in a year and a half because of some injuries, the trade, things like that,” he added. “But trust me, I’m just entering my prime.”

Young's quote about being slept on went viral, particularly his quip about the Wizards potentially being the first seed in the league. Young's rhetorical question got a cynical answer from Brown. The Celtics star said that the critics would simply just move the goalpost.

The Celtics star is coming off a rather confusing season. With Jayson Tatum out for most of the year after tearing his Achilles, many expected Boston to be one of the worst teams in the league. Instead, Brown went on an MVP-level campaign. Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, leading Boston to the second seed in the Eastern Conference. It was an incredible turnaround for a team written off to start the year.

With Tatum's return in the playoffs, the Celtics were expected to be one of the top contenders. A 3-1 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers seemed to be a resounding statement to the league that the former champions were back. Instead, Boston squandered that immense lead, joining many teams in the infamous list of teams who lost a 3-1 series lead.
