Barcelona are unaware of Manchester City‘s plans to sign Alejandro Balde this summer.
On March 26th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Manchester City, Aston Villa and Manchester United have made contact for the left-back.
The Spain international isn’t the only on the Etihad club’s agenda for the same position.
Last week, we relayed news the Citizens, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have expressed interest in Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
Barca sporting director Deco held talks with him in May and will only consider Cucurella if Balde leaves.
The latest claims from elsewhere mention Manchester City preparing to make a €70m offer for Balde.
Manchester City given encouragement
Marca relay this claim and then provide their own take on Barcelona’s stance on Alejandro Balde.
The Premier League side reportedly value the 22-year-old highly and could even offer €70m. At the Camp Nou, they are unaware of Manchester City’s intention and are ‘suspicious of the alleged offer’.
However, the La Liga winners are clear that the fullback is ‘available for transfer’ this summer.
Balde is already placed in the market and Hansi Flick’s side are waiting to see if there will be any movements. This should please Manchester City, provided they have a genuine interest.
The Spaniard made 21 starts in the league this season. His exit won’t have a big impact on as the fullback doesn’t seem to have major role under Hansi Flick.
If he were to leave, then the Catalan club will make progress to sign Marc Cucurella.
Contract, value and agent info
Alejandro Balde’s contract expires in 2030 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €50m. The highest value was €60m in March 2025.
Jorge Mendes represents the player and has good ties with both the Spanish champions and Manchester City.
This, coupled with Barca’s stance should make a deal relatively easy for the Etihad club, if they want to sign him.
It’s quite possible the Blaugrana are using Manchester City to send a message that the defender is available for sale and put pressure on his other suitors.
