Man City are “prepared to offer a very important contract and salary” to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the Manchester club remain confident that they will be able to secure the signature of the 23-year-old:

“My understanding is that Manchester City are preparing a new official bid for Anderson, and Manchester City maintain their confidence. City feel that the player wants the move. City are prepared to offer a very important contract and salary to the boy.”

“So, Man City are ready to go all in for Elliot Anderson. Then the option number two on their shortlist in midfield is Sandro Tonali, also wanted by Arsenal, but the understanding is that for Elliot Anderson, Manchester City will make a new bid and Manchester City will try to close the deal as soon as possible.”

Anderson’s price tag is the key stumbling block

Despite interest from Manchester United, Romano and other trusted sources have repeatedly claimed that the player’s preference is to join City.

Personal terms are, therefore, not expected to be an issue, but finding a compromise on the transfer fee with Forest is the main obstacle. It is believed that they want a similar figure> to what Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo (£115m).

Man City could pivot to Tonali

It does appear as if the Cityzens are willing to switch their attention to Sandro Tonali if a breakthrough can’t be found on the Anderson deal.

The Italian international is unlikely to be much cheaper, with reports suggesting that Newcastle are looking for £100m.
