Barcelona reportedly will not exercise their £26million option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently from Manchester United this summer. The England international has already removed any mention of the Catalan club from his Instagram bio.
Rashford, 28, will now return to United after this summer's World Cup, unless they can arrange a transfer with any other interested club beforehand. The option to sign him is said to expire on Monday, two days before England's opening game against Group L opponents Croatia.
The Spanish champions have effectively chosen Anthony Gordon over Rashford. They completed a £60million deal with Newcastle United late last month.
Marca reports that the relationship between him and Barcelona is over, with the club saying goodbye to last season's loanee because he will not be there next season. They claim the signing of Gordon proved that their interest in signing Rashford permanently was waning.
The outlet highlights how they both play in the same position, with Raphinha due to be the starting striker. How financially significant the signing of Gordon was is also noted.
When considering wages, both would cost around the same amount annually. Gordon, however, is three-and-a-half years younger than Rashford and presses better, which Hansi Flick wants.
