Barcelona have reportedly ended their interest in signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal. The Manchester United forward enjoyed a brilliant season on loan at the Catalan giants.

The Reds academy graduate helped Barca retain their La Liga title, with his form for Hasni Flick's side playing a major role in his call-up to England's World Cup squad. Barca have until June 15 to activate a £26million purchase option included in their loan arrangement with United to secure his services.

But Spanish publication Marca now claim that Anthony Gordon has been picked ahead of him. It is said that the winger was signed from Newcastle United because of his defensive work, Rashford's 'weakest point', and their four-year age gap.

Barcelona reportedly told United they were only willing to pay half of Rashford's suggested fee - a £13m deal - which the Reds would not accept. The Nou Camp outfit are also said to be targeting former Manchester City star Bernardo Silva and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez ahead of him.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old has removed the name Barcelona from his bio on all social media platforms - further suggesting that he won't be joining them.

United currently have no plans to reintegrate him into Michael Carrick's squad for next season. It leaves Rashford's future in limbo, with his hefty wages said to be a stumbling block for interested clubs.

Premier League champions Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, who had Rashford on loan for the second half of last season, are reportedly interested in bringing him back to England.

Recent reports in The Sun, meanwhile, have suggested that Bundesliga giants Bayern are willing to match United‘s valuation of the Englishman.

The forward scored 14 times and contributed a further 14 assists across all competitions for Barca - playing a pivotal role in their La Liga and Spanish Supercopa victories.

And Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has spoken warmly about his experience working with Rashford, but declined to be drawn on talks regarding his long-term future at the Camp Nou.

Speaking after the attacker scored against Real Madrid in El Clasico on May 10, he said: "I'm very happy with Marcus. He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal.

"I can't say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season."
