Tyrell Malacia will leave United this summer

All you need to know about Manchester United's left-back issues after the decision to release Tyrell Malacia was confirmed...

Manchester United have confirmed that left-back Tyrell Malacia will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Malacia played just 15 minutes of Premier League football last season but was on the bench on 28 occasions in the Premier League as back-up to Luke Shaw.

He has had to fight back from a serious knee injury while at United and is now desperate to go and play first-team football somewhere to rebuild his career.

It leaves United with only Shaw as a regular left-back option. He started every Premier League game last term but has had fitness issues of his own in recent seasons.

The 30-year-old has one year left on his contract and a decision over an extension will be made at some point next season, but there is concern at his ability to play two games a week.

United have Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui who can play at left back, but Dorgu has started to impress on the wing and Mazraoui is a right-back by trade.

The club plan to sign a left-back this summer but two of their early options now look to be off the table, with Nathaniel Brown set to join Bayern Munich and Myles Lewis-Skelly establishing himself in Arsenal's midfield.

That leaves Lewis Hall as the leading candidate at the moment, with Newcastle United's left-back on United's radar.

Hall was left out for Newcastle's final game of the season for Dan Burn and despite some impressive displays, he didn't make the cut for England's World Cup squad.
