Chelsea have been urged to consider a surprise summer move for Marcus Rashford after Blues legend Joe Cole suggested the England international could thrive at Stamford Bridge if he becomes available during the transfer window.
Rashford’s future has been the subject of continued speculation in recent months, with questions remaining over where the forward will be playing next season. The Manchester United academy graduate has endured a difficult period at Old Trafford, leading to reports that the Red Devils could be open to offers should the right proposal arrive.
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole believes the 28-year-old remains one of England’s most naturally gifted attacking players and has suggested that CHELSEA should explore the possibility of bringing him to west London
‘It’s just a matter of the wages and the valuation,’ Cole told The Sun. ‘Rashford ticks a lot of boxes, but you don’t want to spend a fortune on him – he’d do a good job for Chelsea.
‘He needs to keep going, Marcus, he needs to keep his confidence up because he rebuilt himself at Barcelona, and there’s still another level for him to jump to.
‘He’s someone Chelsea should inquire about, but it’ll depend on the deal.’
Rashford’s pace, versatility and proven Premier League pedigree are among the qualities that have made him an attractive option in the eyes of some observers. The England international is capable of playing across the front line but is generally considered most effective when operating from the left wing, where his direct running and ability to attack defenders have troubled opponents throughout his career.
While a transfer remains purely speculative at this stage, Cole believes a change of environment could help Rashford rediscover the form that once established him as one of the most dangerous attackers in English football.
Chelsea’s recruitment team are expected to be active once again this summer as Xabi Alonso prepares for another important campaign.
The club’s transfer strategy in recent years has focused heavily on younger players with long-term potential, meaning any move for Rashford would represent a slightly different approach given his experience at both domestic and international level.
