Highly-Rated Premier League Winger‘Likely’ to Leave Club

In the eyes of many Liverpool fans, Federico Chiesa has never truly given a fair chance to shine at Anfield. Generally seen by former head coach Arne Slot as little more than a ‘super-sub’, his playing time has been noticeably limited over the past couple of season.

Unfortunately for fans of the Italian international, this is unlikely to change under the stewardship of incoming manager Andoni Iraola. According to Mark Brus on The Daily Briefing, Chiesa is looking ‘increasingly likely’ to leave the club during the summer transfer window.

Furthermore, Liverpool aren’t asking much for his departure to be secured. As things stand, they have set a reported asking price of just over £17 million for the 28-year-old’s services. Still, this would be a financial net gain for the Reds – they signed him for just £12.5 million back in 2024.

A couple of clubs in Serie A appear to be interested. Napoli have been linked with a move for the player, as have Cesc Fabregas’ Como. Even if neither club wishes to sign him up on a permanent basis, they could explore the opportunity of signing him on loan.

Chiesa isn’t the only Liverpool player linked with a move to Serie A this summer, either. According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Curtis Jones could move to Inter Milan in the summer, having been touted with a potential transfer to the Italian giants since January.

Federico Chiesa 2025/26 Premier League stats

On the face of it, Chiesa’s stats from the previous season look largely unimpressive. Two goals and one assist in 26 games is nothing to be proud of, but it is important to remember that 25 of these 26 appearances were from the bench – furthermore, he didn’t play the full 90 minutes in any of Liverpool’s 38 Premier League matches last season.

He was far more prevalent in cup competitions last season. In ten appearances across the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Champions League, Chiesa scored a single goal and notched up two assists – it seems clear that Chiesa will deliver decent results when given the opportunity to do so.

Should Liverpool allow Federico Chiesa to leave the club?

Sadly, following a tumultuous summer in 2025 in which Liverpool spent well over £400 million, the Reds are in a difficult financial situation. Players will have to leave the club to offset their losses – as one of their backup players, Chiesa is always going to be one of the first names to be considered expendable.

Yes, Liverpool won’t get much money for him, but losing Chiesa will pay dividends towards plugging the gaps. Liverpool are lucrative football club, but they must remain wary of financial fair play restrictions.

To refer to Chiesa as ‘deadwood’ would be a little harsh. As we’ve explained earlier, he does have something to offer – ultimately, however, he is an asset that Liverpool could probably do without at this stage.
