Bengals restructure Joe Burrow’s contract to create cap room, per report

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Joe Burrow and the Bengals restructured the star quarterback’s contract, according to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.

Schefter said this move frees up $10 million in cap space for Cincinnati.

“This move allows Cincy to operate without putting itself in a tough spot cap wise,” Schefter explained Tuesday.

The NFL insider said the Bengals’ restructuring Burrow’s contract was partly because of the money Cincinnati needed for the Dexter Lawrence trade.

Ben Baby, ESPN’s Bengals beat reporter, said, “The Bengals could have restructured up to $19.2 million by converting his entire base salary for the upcoming season.”
