Hungarian media react to Dominik Szoboszlai display vs Kazakhstan

Dominik Szoboszlai might have seen his club season with Liverpool fizzle out in frustrating fashion, but he reminded everyone exactly what he can do when he pulls on the Hungary shirt.

He captained the side in a 3-1 win against Kazakhstan.

Lining up off the left , the midfielder was again the heartbeat of Marco Rossi’s side, constantly demanding the ball, driving play forward and taking responsibility in the final third.

Hungary did not make life easy for themselves, falling behind early and looking strangely flat in the opening stages, but Szoboszlai grew into the game and started to drag his team up the pitch.

He scored the equaliser to get the Hungarian’s back on track

In the 52nd minute substitute Lukács did brilliantly to keep the ball in play near the corner flag, and Tamás Szűcs whipped it into the middle.

Szoboszlai had drifted into the perfect spot and simply guided it in from close range. Later he was also involved in the goal that killed the game off, registering an assist.

Nemzeti Sport gave the Liverpool No.8 a 7/10 and wrote:

“Started on the left side. In the 11th minute, he won the ball brilliantly, then created a chance for Alex Tóth with a clever nutmeg pass. In the 23rd minute, he delivered an excellent cross onto Barnabás Varga’s head, and it wasn’t his fault it didn’t result in an assist. In the 34th minute, he failed to hit the target from a free kick.”

“He was heavily involved throughout, but his first shot after the break was unusually poor and ended up going out for a throw-in. His next effort, however, led to the equaliser, followed by an assist – although he didn’t deserve full credit for that one.”

“In the closing stages, he continued to sprint, battle, and win possession, showing excellent mentality from start to finish.”

Szoboszlai himself also added after the game that a “football detox” would do him good over the summer with Hungary not qualifying for the World Up:

“A little football detox will feel good for me now. The truth is that I still have sad thoughts [because we missed the World Cup], but if I happen to have a day with free time during a World Cup match, I might look into it, but I don’t adjust my program depending on the fact that I can watch the World Cup, because I think I’ll have better things to do,” Szoboszlai said.
