Manchester City faces a fight to stop one of its promising youngsters from joining Liverpool this summer, with the Reds claimed to be in talks with midfielder Xavier Parker.

Liverpool has already been busy strengthening its academy with new additions in recent months. Having signed Mor Talla Ndiaye in January, the Reds will add Ifeanyi Ndukwe to the ranks this summer, while they are also understood to be close to the signing of 17-year-old attacking midfielder Samuel Martinez from Colombian side Atletico Nacional.

Kennet Eichhorn though has turned down a move to Anfield in favor of remaining in Germany, and is now set to join Bayer Leverkusen. Nevertheless, Liverpool has moved quickly on to another young target closer to home.

According to The Secret Scout on X, the Reds are in talks with 16-year-old attacking midfielder Parker, who is due to leave City when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Parker, who joined City from West Ham in 2024, is claimed to be a Liverpool fan, with both parties wanting the move.

City though is still “actively working” to reach an agreement on a new deal with the teenager, according to Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool isn’t the only club interested either, with “several” other teams said to be interested.

One of the most highly coveted young midfielders in England, Parker generally operates on the left of a midfield three. He was part of the City side which won the U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup, and has represented England U16s, having recently captained his country in friendly wins over Argentina and Mexico.

Signing Parker would be another coup for Liverpool’s academy, with the Reds having also recently secured the future of Josh Abe.

The 15-year-old had been linked with City, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea, with claims made that he had been offered professional terms “in excess of £50k per week” by other teams.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Abe though has now agreed a scholarship deal at Anfield, and will be set to sign a first professional contract when he turns 17 next year. The teenager is also expected to be part of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States next month.

The likes of Parker and Abe will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Rio Ngumoha, who made his senior international debut for England at the weekend after a breakthrough season with Liverpool.

The winger even earned the player of the match award against New Zealand, and will be expected to take on an even bigger role for the Reds next season under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
