Kevin Morby is currently on the road with his band in support of the new studio release Little Wide Open. The highly collaborative musician has invited out numerous guests during the run thus far, including both The National’s Aaron Dessner, who produced Little Wide Open, and Sam Cohen, another close studio collaborator, at Levon Helm’s barn in Woodstock, NY last month and his partner Katie Crutchfield at several recent stops in the Midwest.
Then, last night, Morby performed at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer and brought out Dr. Dog’s Toby Leaman and Zach Miller, who are based in the area, for a memorable take on David Bowie’s “Five Years.” In addition to crossing paths at festivals and shows throughout the years, Dr. Dog and Morby often share a drummer, Eric Slick, though he is not currently on the road with the latter musician.
This evening, Morby is slated to perform at New York’s Brooklyn Steel. Since the show will overlap with at least part of the Knicks/Spurs NBA finals game taking place just a few subway stops away at Madison Square Garden, Morby has issued an upstate on social media. It reads:
Dr. Dog, who have shifted to a select-appearance model, will appear at the AVL Sounds Fest in
Asheville, NC on August 9.
