Why Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama loves walking around barefoot

Facing a 2-0 deficit in the NBA Finals, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs entered Madison Square Garden as the anti-protagonist of a 27-year-long drought for the New York Knicks to return to the NBA Finals. Wembanyama and the Spurs' Game 3 adjustments led to a 115-111 victory, as San Antonio avoided the brink of elimination. Victor led with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals.

After the win, Wembanyama's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, revealed how his client remained poised and focus, as he was able to drown out the noise that included United States President Donald Trump in attendance, including why Wembanyama is oftentimes barefoot when he's not playing basketball, he explained, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

“He always likes to walk barefoot so he can really feel the ground,” his longtime agent Bouna Ndiaye said as he stood outside the news conference room, waiting for the 22-year-old superstar. “It's how he connects.”

Wembanyama and the Spurs will hope to connect their second consecutive win in the NBA Finals. With an opportunity to tie the series before heading back to San Antonio for Game 5, Wembanyama and the Spurs will have to do it again on Wednesday.
