San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama didn't hold back while talking about the behavior of New York Knicks fans following New York's 115-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
After the game, a plethora of Knicks fans were arrested for clashing with police officers and videos began circulating of Knicks supporters being verbally and physically abusive towards Spurs fans.
Victor Wembanayama calls out Knicks fans for 'unacceptable' behavior after Game 3 loss
When informed of this behavior, Wembanyama quickly condemned it.
"My thoughts of course [are] that we can't forget it's a game," Wembanyama said. "We're just playing a game out there. I am all for passion, but [with] the respect of each other. It's unacceptable."
Wembanyama wasn't alone in denouncing the behavior, as even Knicks players were able to acknowledge the unacceptable actions of their own supporters.
“The game is built off of respect and passion,” Knicks star center Karl-Anthony Towns said. “We want everyone to respect each other. We want everyone to enjoy basketball at its purest state. It’s the NBA Finals. There’s no better place to watch basketball. Leave the physicality to everyone on the court.”
Being passionate is one thing, but using that passion as an excuse to be verbally or physically abusive to fans of another team is another thing entirely. Such behavior is immature, embarrassing and intolerable. Be better, Knicks fans.
