Lutsharel Geertruida move dismissed & midfielder rejects Liverpool – Latest LFC News

Liverpool may be linked with plenty of potential signings ahead of the summer transfer window, but it doesn’t look like two targets are arriving.

Geertruida & Eichhorn Liverpool moves off

The Reds need a new right-back, due to Conor Bradley‘s injury and Jeremie Frimpong‘s struggles, with Lutsharel Geertuida mentioned as an option.

The RB Leipzig man, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, doesn’t look like he will be off to Liverpool, though, according to Voetbal International‘s Joost Blaauwhof on X.

“Lutsharel Geertruida currently has no contact whatsoever with Liverpool,” Blaauwhof wrote.

“Arne Slot wanted to bring in the defender in the winter due to his versatility.

“The club didn’t follow through at the last moment, despite a personal agreement. The ex-Feyenoorder is focusing on the World Cup, transfer comes later.”

Meanwhile, highly-rated Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn is another player who won’t be moving to Liverpool.

The 16-year-old is instead off to Bayer Leverkusen, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a medical has been completed at the Bundesliga club.

• Liverpool are “offering important money” to sign Yan Diomande over Paris Saint-Germain, with the winger seen as their “top priority” summer addition

• Journalist David Lynch has provided some key information on Liverpool’s signing of Frimpong, saying he was always considered an “opportunistic” addition

• Lynch also claims that Bradley is “targeting a return to training” soon after the 2026/27 season gets underway, as he battles his way through a serious knee injury.

• Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has revealed conversations he had with Xabi Alonso about the Reds when they were players, discussing “magic moments” at the club.

More from This Is Anfield

James Nalton has assessed Ryan Gravenberch‘s 2025/26 season at Liverpool, with Alexis Mac Allister‘s form playing a part in his struggles:

“Gravenberch’s midfield partner Alexis Mac Allister was the best midfielder in the league in 24/25 and made the PFA Team of the Year, but experienced one of the sharpest declines this past season.

“It’s impossible to assess one midfielder without mentioning the other, as their coincidental drops in form combined to make things look even worse for both.

“This then had a knock-on effect on the other areas of the team, behind and in front of them, depending on the phase of the game.

“It demonstrated how important it is that a midfield is at least reliable tactically, even if not outstanding individually, but the Liverpool players in these positions were neither in 25/26.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

On this day in 1984, future Liverpool legend John Barnes announced himself to the world with a stunning solo effort for England away to Brazil at the Maracana.

The winger’s Three Lions career never actually took off after that, but it’s fair to say he made up for it in a Reds shirt!

Fifteen years later, in 1999, Barnes took charge as Celtic manager, with Sir Kenny Dalglish joining him as Director of Football.

We continue to wish John and Kenny all the best amid their recent health battles.
