Manchester City are doing everything they can to stop one of their brightest young midfielders slipping through their fingers – and Liverpool are watching the situation very closely.

The Cityzens are saying goodbye to club legends like Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones all in one window.

It really does feel like an end of an era, especially with Enzo Maresca now poised to take over at the Etihad.

While the Manchester giants are expected to reinforce heavily in the summer to try and win the Premier League after two seasons of falling short, the new incoming manager may have a transfer dilemma on their hands.

Reliable Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower revealed that the Anfield club is keen on Manchester City and England u16 midfielder Xavier Parker and have been keeping tabs on his development.

Subsequent reports then went as far as to assert that Liverpool are now in direct talks to sign the highly-rated academy talent.

Parker actually found the net against Liverpool’s Under-18s in March, grabbing the third goal in a 3-0 victory for the Cityzens.

He also featured in the City side that lifted the most recent FA Youth Cup, playing in the 2-1 win over Manchester United in the final on May 14.

But Man City will not give up without a fight, at least according to Fabrizio Romano who reported on X:

“Manchester City are actively working hard to reach an agreement with Xavier Parker camp over new deal. Several clubs appreciate Xavier with Liverpool keen but no decision made yet. Man City trying to keep him as they see Parler as elite talent.”

Parker is viewed as one of the standout under‑16 prospects in England after arriving at City from West Ham in 2024, and is widely seen as one of the leading players in his position for his age group. That status helps explain why City moved to secure him as early as under‑14 level.
