Bulls rumors: 4 expected finalists to replace Billy Donovan

The Chicago Bulls may be getting closer to finding their new head coach. On Wednesday, it was reported that the Bulls have apparently narrowed their options down to four candidates, per Marc Stein of The Stein Report.

The names are Tiago Splitter, Ryan Schmidt, Micah Nori, and West Unseld Jr. They will each be invited to in-person interviews.

Splitter is the head coach of the Trail Blazers. Schmidt is an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks. Nori is an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unseld Jr is an assistant for the Bulls.

However, according to Stein, Nori, and Splitter are in the hunt for another head coaching position.

“Nori and Splitter are also finalists in Portland's ongoing search for a full-time successor to Chauncey Billups along with Boston's Tyler Lashbrook … although that process has been slowed somewhat by new Trail Blazers owner Tom Dundon's involvement with the Carolina Hurricanes and their Stanley Cup Final run.”

Meanwhile, the Bulls, while looking to bring in an outside voice, are still considering Unseld. Nevertheless, if an outside person is brought in, they are expected to retain Unseld as an assistant.

Overall, these candidates have a background in development.

In April, Billy Donovan stepped down as head coach after six seasons. It's been a hectic time for Chicago, given the total restructuring they are in the midst of. They are coming off of hiring Bryson Graham as the VP of Basketball Operations. Plus, they have two top-20 NBA Draft picks, including the No. 4 pick.
