The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking for ways to improve this offseason after their playoff exit at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs this past postseason. In that series, Julius Randle struggled mightily to score the ball with any efficiency, continuing a trend of lackluster postseason performances dating back to his time with the New York Knicks.
However, one person not here for the criticism that both Randle and Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren have received in these playoffs is Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch.
“Julius [Randle] was really good for us in the Denver series… Now we see Chet Holmgren is no good. I can't stand these overreactions… I turn my TV off in the morning during the playoffs. I don't want to hear it,” he said, per KFAN1003 on X, formerly Twitter.

It's unclear what exactly Finch thinks an appropriate response would have been to Randle's ugly performance against the Spurs, in which he was borderline unplayable and frequently turned into a black hole on offense. It's true that he was strong in the previous series against the Denver Nuggets, but many expect the Timberwolves still to explore trading him this summer.
Meanwhile, Holmgren was clearly in his own head in the Thunder's loss to the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, attempting a shocking two shots in the decisive Game 7, despite his team being without both Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell. Considering that Holmgren didn't have as much of a storied history of playoff dropping as Randle, one could perhaps see how the reactions to that series could be interpreted as overblown.
Still, clearly, Finch is not on board with the hot take culture of today's NBA media landscape.
