Ex-Red player bashes Carragher for unfair criticism

Lovren lashed out at Carragher for his comments on Salah’s performance. As reported by Goal, the 36-year-old Croatian centre-back defended Salah for his performance. Both played for Liverpool between 2017 and 2020. Lovren now plays for Greek club PAOK.

Lovren pointed out at the hypocrisy over Salah’s performance. He commented that nobody talked about his performance in the past eight years. He further added that the way “they treated him this season is not harsh. It’s disgusting.

Lovren also hit back at Carragher, who accused Salah of selfishness. The centre-back further challenged Carragher to be more direct about his criticism. Lovren also revealed that the former English defender made similar remarks about him, although he didn’t care much about the same.

Salah didn’t have a very impressive time in the 2025-26 season. He scored just 7 goals in the Premier League. He also had a tough time with former manager Arne Slot. This was one of the reasons why the 33-year-old right winger left **the Reds**earlier than expected.

Mohamed Salah’s overall contribution to Liverpool

Salah was a vital cog in the Reds’ attacking lineup. He joined the club in 2017. The Egyptian winger was a part of some of Liverpool’s most memorable moments.

In his very debut season (2017-18), the Reds progressed to the UEFA Champions League finals. They also finished 4th in the Premier League. In the next season, Salah played a crucial role in the Champions League title victory. Liverpool finished second in the Premier League.

However, the 2019-20 season was the most special one for the Egyptian winger. The Reds won the Premier League. This was their first top-flight English league championship victory in 30 years. This wasn’t all. Liverpool won the UEFA Super Cup finals. They defeated Chelsea 5-4 on penalties. If this was enough, the Reds also won the 2019 Club World Cup finals. They defeated Flamengo 1-0 in extra time.

The Reds were only the second English club to do so after Manchester United. The Red Devils won the 2008 edition. Salah went on to play an important role in the 2021-22 season. The Reds narrowly missed out on the Premier League and the Champions League titles. They finished in the second place. They won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup though.

Salah was also a part of the Liverpool team that won the 2024-25 Premier League. This was Arne Slot’s debut season as the team manager. He replaced long-time manager Jurgen Klopp. Klopp was the main reason why the Egyptian chose to join Anfield. The duo led Liverpool to multiple historic titles between 2017 and 2024.

Future plans for Mohamed Salah

For now, Salah is focusing on the World Cup 2026. The Egyptian winger will be leading his squad this time. Egypt is placed in Group G of the World Cup. They’ll commence their campaign against Belgium on June 16. Egypt will then compete against New Zealand on June 22 and then against Iran in their final league match on June 27.

But after that, the **football**player has plenty of time to think. Multiple clubs including Bayern Munich are pursuing Salah. Even However, Salah seems interested to join the Saudi Pro League. He was initially offered a package by Al-Ittihad, but the plan didn’t move forward.

Salah will miss his time at Anfield. However, the Egyptian has decided to move forward. It would be interesting to see which club he joins after the World Cup.
