The Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines on May 16 by bringing Aaron Rodgers back for one final season.
The move ended any doubt about Rodgers sporting the Black and Yellow during his 23rd NFL season. That said, on Tuesday, Rodgers discovered that he’ll be without his 27-year-old veteran wide receiver teammate, as he was released two months after signing with the six-time Super Bowl champions.
“The Steelers added a punter to their roster on Tuesday,” Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper reported. “They announced that they have claimed Aidan Laros off of waivers. Laros was dropped by the Buccaneers on Monday.”
“The Steelers released wide receiver Brandon Johnson in a corresponding move. Johnson had one catch for nine yards during a 2024 stint with the Steelers, and he had 25 catches for 326 yards and five touchdowns in 20 games with the Broncos in his first two NFL seasons.”
Unfortunately for Johnson, the third time wasn’t the charm for the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native in Pittsburgh. Johnson spent most of his first stint with the Steelers on the organization’s practice squad.
As Alper noted, though, the UCF product did receive limited playing time with the big dogs before getting waived last August. Johnson wasn’t as fortunate during the second go-round, as he re-joined Pittsburgh late in the 2025-26 campaign and never left the practice squad.
The Steelers clearly saw enough from Johnson during stint No. 3 to release him in early June, forcing him to continue his NFL career elsewhere.
