£100m signing is a'top, top priority'for Liverpool: they're offering huge money to tempt the player

Liverpool remain intent on making Yan Diomande their next marquee signing as the bid to replace Mohamed Salah continues in earnest.

Salah will officially leave the club as a free agent on 30 June when his Liverpool contract expires, but the Egyptian has already said his farewell to the club.

Replacing him is an immense challenge, and it goes without saying, but patience will be required with whoever is signed to fill his massive shoes.

Diomande is a thrilling talent and looks set to take European football by storm in the coming years, but he’s just 19 and still needs more experience to develop into the player his potential suggests he can be.

For comparison, Salah had starred at Basel before his move to Chelsea ended in disappointment, leading to a positive learning experience in Italy before he ultimately developed into a world-class operator in his final season at AS Roma. At 24, he had 19 goals and 14 assists in his last season in Serie A.

Diomande has one full senior season under his belt, with 13 goals and 10 assists for RB Leipzig. The data and video all suggest he is ready to take the next step, but the Premier League is an altogether different challenge compared to the Bundesliga.

Latest Yan Diomande transfer news as Liverpool move seemingly makes more sense

Liverpool are offering Diomande the chance to become Salah’s heir with zero roadblocks to a starting role, while PSG have an established world class attack that has won back-to-back Champions League titles, meaning the pathway to a starting role is not quite as clear.

On the latest Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano said: “Yan Diomande is one of the most exciting and electrifying wingers on the market. Now, it’s difficult to find players who can be young, talented, [good with the] one-v-one, fast, score, deliver assists, it’s very difficult.

“He’s wanted by Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Both clubs are still in the mix. Liverpool are really pushing, Liverpool are really insisting to make it happen.

“For Liverpool, he’s a top, top priority. They are offering important money to the player to get it done.

“On the other side, Paris Saint-Germain are also keen but it depends on what happens with Barcola, with Goncalo Ramos and Kang-in Lee. There are players that have to leave at PSG, while at Liverpool they’ve already made space with Mo Salah leaving and more players.”
