Enzo Fernandez transfer news
Enzo Fernandez Transfer News: Real Madrid Still Haven’t Moved, Chelsea Won’t Budge
For all the noise surrounding Enzo Fernandez and Real Madrid, the reality is surprisingly dull. No bid. No negotiations. No direct contact with Chelsea.
That’s the position according to Fabrizio Romano‘s latest information, and it strips away much of the excitement that has built around the story over recent weeks. Madrid have reached an understanding with Fernandez’s representatives regarding personal terms, which is significant enough, but that’s only one piece of a much larger puzzle. The clubs themselves haven’t even sat down at the table.
Chelsea aren’t making life easy either. They have little reason to
Having paid Benfica £106.8 million for the Argentine in 2023, they’re protecting an asset tied to a contract that runs until 2032. If Madrid want him, they’ll need to come with serious money. Chelsea‘s valuation sits around the €120 million mark, and there has been no indication of any meaningful softening behind the scenes.
At the same time, another issue continues to simmer. Talks over an improved contract for Fernandez have gone nowhere. The gap between player and club remains substantial, creating an awkward situation where neither side appears fully satisfied. That’s important because the transfer conversation isn’t being driven solely by Madrid’s interest. Internal tensions at Stamford Bridge are playing their part as well.
Florentino Pérez is understood to be supportive of a move. José Mourinho, preparing for a new era in the Spanish capital, reportedly likes the player too. Admiration, though, doesn’t sign contracts.
Plenty of clubs admire elite midfielders. The question is whether Real Madrid admire Fernandez enough to meet a fee that could climb towards €138 million once Chelsea dig their heels in. So far, there’s no evidence they’re ready to go that far. In fact, reports suggesting Madrid are monitoring alternative midfield targets hint at caution rather than absolute commitment.
Opinion:
From Fernandez’s perspective, the destination couldn’t be clearer. The Bernabéu appeals. A five-year deal has reportedly been discussed. Personal terms aren’t viewed as an obstacle. Usually, that’s the difficult part. Here, it’s arguably the easiest.
Everything else is tangled. Chelsea hold the contractual leverage. Madrid hold the patience. Fernandez sits somewhere in the middle, waiting for movement that hasn’t arrived.
Then there’s the calendar. The summer’s international commitments and the wider disruption caused by the World Cup schedule make immediate progress even less likely. Meaningful discussions between clubs may not happen until the latter stages of July.

That’s what makes this transfer so peculiar. Everyone seems to know what the player wants. Everyone knows what Chelsea want. Madrid’s interest isn’t exactly a secret either. Yet the one thing required to move the story forward, actual negotiations, remains absent.
For now, the saga exists largely as a collection of intentions rather than actions, and until somebody picks up the phone, that’s all it is.
