To the surprise of no one, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is viewed as a villain amongst New Yorkers, as evidenced by The New York Post's recent covers.
Wemby got the front and back pages of the latest issue of The Post. The front page features the quote, “Skinny Pop,” and it references Jose Alvarado's recent warning to Wemby.

The back pages go one step further, dubbing Wembanyama a “wanted” man for his “crimes against the New York Knicks.” The “charge” he was hit with was a “flagrant foul,” and the reward? An “NBA trophy.”

With Game 4 coming up, the Spurs have a chance to match the Knicks in the NBA Finals. New York came into San Antonio, winning the first two games of the series. The Spurs could do the same if they win Game 4 at Madison Square Garden.
Wemby came alive in Game 3, scoring a game-high (tied with Jalen Brunson) 32 points while making 11 of his 18 shots. He also had nine rebounds.
This helped the Spurs surge after facing a second-half deficit heading into halftime. They won the game by four points, and they are going into Game 4 with all the momentum.
Wembanyama is coming off a dominant regular season. He is the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 11.5 rebounds and over three blocks a game. He also averaged 25 points per game, which was also a career-best.
His brutal hit on Jalen Brunson may have ruffled feathers with New Yorkers. Wemby knocked the Knicks' captain to the floor without drawing a foul. The NBA didn't give him a retroactive flagrant foul either after reviewing it. We'll see how the Knicks crowd greets him at Game 4.
