Omari Kellyman to opt for another season?

Kellyman was loaned out to Cardiff City in 2025 by the Blues. As reported by BBC, the attacking midfielder is considering another loan move for the upcoming season. He won’t be returning to either Stamford Bridge or Cardiff City for now.

Kellyman joined Aston Villa in 2023. He initially played for the team’s youth academy between 2022 and 2023. However, he switched to Chelsea by 2024. The 20-year-old was acquired by the West London club for an amount of £19 million. His contract is valid for six years. The West London club also has an option to extend the contract for another year.

Kellyman’s contribution to Cardiff City and England squad

Kellyman was expected to make it big at Stamford Bridge. However, hamstring injuries nearly forced him out for the whole season. He was unable to leave a solid impact. Kellyman hasn’t participated in the **Premier League**since 2024. He played only two games for Aston Villa in the 2023-24 season.

However, the attacking midfielder experienced a great time at Cardiff City. He scored eleven goals throughout the League One tournament. Kellyman also scored one of the three goals in the crucial match against Reading FC. This ensured the Cardiff City a berth in the 2026-27 EFL Championship. The Bluebirds eventually finished in the second place in the League One. Lincoln City won the overall title with 103 points.

Kellyman was born in Derby, England. However, he played for the Northern Ireland’s junior teams between 2021 and 2023. In mid-2023, Kellyman officially announced his allegiance to England. He received a call-up for the U19 squad in September 2023. The attacking midfielder was also named in the Under-20 squad in May 2024. However, he was replaced by Romain Esse.

Future Gameplan for Kellyman

Kellyman has a long way to go. Chelsea realizes this more than anybody else. This is why the West London club is in no hurry. They want the young midfielder to be in full form before he rejoins the club.

Kellyman is not a part of the England World Cup squad. As such, he has plenty of time to work on his fitness. The midfielder was served four yellow cards in the 2025-26 League One season. If he improves on this, he has a bright future ahead. The age factor is also on his side.

Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League. The West London **football**club suffered an early exit in the EFL Cup as well as the UEFA Champions League. However, the Blues finished runners-up in the 2025-26 FA Cup. They also won the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The Blues avenged their Champions League loss against the Paris Saint-Germain in the finals. The French club lost 3-0 in the finals. This was the second Club World Cup title for Chelsea since the 2021 edition.

Chelsea is currently undergoing a massive overhaul. Xabi Alonso has joined as the new team manager. He wants a stronger, fitter side by the upcoming season. He cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes. This is why Kellyman will have to wait a bit longer before he can return to Chelsea.
