Liverpool Transfer News: Chiesa Waiting for Iraola’s Verdict Before Deciding Future
Federico Chiesa still doesn’t know where he’ll be playing his football next season. Neither, for that matter, do Liverpool. For months, the noise around his future has refused to disappear. It keeps resurfacing because the reality is simple enough. According to Caughtoffside, Chiesa wants minutes. Proper minutes. Not scattered cameos when the result is already settled, and the clock is winding down.
The Italy international arrived from Juventus in 2024 for roughly £12 million, a fee that looked shrewd at the time. Liverpool thought they were getting a proven attacker with pedigree, pace and a habit of producing moments in big matches. Instead, injuries got in the way. Then the opportunity did. By the end of the 2025-26 campaign, he hadn’t started a single Premier League game, while only three appearances arrived across the final seven fixtures.
That’s the sort of record that tells its own story
January nearly brought an exit. Liverpool reportedly blocked the move because attacking depth was already thin, and letting another forward leave made little sense. Chiesa stayed put, got on with things and publicly accepted the situation. Professional, certainly. Ideal? Not even close. Across Italy, clubs are watching.
Juventus have been linked. So have Atalanta, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma. Como are hovering as well, with Cesc Fabregas reportedly keen on adding more quality after an eye-catching rise. Chiesa hasn’t exactly hidden his affection for Juventus either. When a player openly says a former club remains in his heart, people tend to listen. Everything now hinges on Andoni Iraola.
A new manager changes the equation. Fresh staff. Fresh conversations. Fresh judgment. Chiesa is expected to wait until pre-season before making any decision, and that feels sensible. Walking away before hearing Iraola’s plans would be premature.
Still, there’s a strong sense that this is drifting towards a separation
Nobody doubts Chiesa’s willingness to work. His running power suits an aggressive pressing system, and he’s never looked short of effort. The problem is competition. Liverpool’s attacking options leave very little room for error, and the Reds are looking for young wingers like Yan Diomande to replace Salah. Iraola will demand intensity every day, and he may prefer players already established within that framework.

A pre-season audition should happen. Then the decision becomes obvious. Stay and fight for a place, or head back to Serie A where the spotlight, the responsibility and the football might look far more familiar.
