Zohran Mamdani claps back at James Dolan over nixed Knicks watch parties

After watching James Dolan accuse his administration of ruining the New York Knicks Madison Square Garden watch party in an appearance on WFAN, Zohran Mamdani took to social media to clap back at New York's most famous sports franchise owner, and he brought receipts along for good measure.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to provide his side of the situation surrounding the now-canceled watch party, Mamdani noted he approved the permit the Knicks submitted; it's not his fault that Dolan opted to cancel the party.

“MSG requested a permit for a watch party for 500-999 fans. We approved that permit for 999 fans,” Mamdani declared on social media. “Mr. Dolan has now decided to cancel the watch party. I know this is breaking hearts across our city. But if there's one thing Knicks fans don't need permission for, it's showing up for our team wherever we may be — no matter the block or the borough. Knicks in five.”

With President Donald Trump attending Game 3, New York understandably opted to hold their watch party at Wollman Rink in Central Park in order to provide a fun, free event for fans who couldn't afford the exorbitant prices of a seat at MSG. But with Trump not expected to make an appearance at Game 4, the party once again being canceled drew attention from all over the Five Boroughs, with many fans pointing at Dolan as a reason for its absence. While the Knicks owner did his best to try to pass off the blame on Mamadani, if he was serious about holding the watch party outside MSG, why did he only request a permit for up to 999 fans when thousands routinely surround the world's most famous arena to watch their favorite team?
