Chiefs Make Patrick Mahomes the Highest-Paid Player in NFL History - Again

Patrick Mahomes just got paid, again, with the Kansas City Chiefs adding two years to his existing NFL contract.

The new money on the deal is reportedly worth $239.05 million, pushing the total value to $504.75 million through the 2033 season.

What’s even more startling is that, with how the deal is structured, all $504.75 million eventually becomes fully guaranteed, with incentives and escalators potentially pushing it even further to $522.25 million.

That’s over half a billion dollars in Mahomes’ pocket, regardless of whether he ever plays another down.

And starting in 2027, when the new money kicks in, the deal will average $64 million per year, which will be a new NFL record.

Though the numbers are astonishing, the deal didn’t completely come out of nowhere.

When Mahomes restructured his deal back in September 2023, both sides essentially put a pin in it and agreed to circle back after 2026.

Mahomes’ average annual value (AAV) for 2026 currently sits at $45 million, which ranks 13th among all NFL quarterbacks, and well behind Dak Prescott’s league-leading $60 million per year figure.

I don’t think anybody would try to argue Mahomes is the 13th-best QB in the league, behind names like Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, Jared Goff, and Deshaun Watson, so it was only a matter of time before this got sorted.

In 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million extension with Kansas City, which at the time was the largest contract in North American sports history.

Nobody then had seen anything like it, and $45 million per year sounded absurd.

Now, six years later, nearly half the quarterbacks in the league are making that much.

Mahomes’ NFL career earnings are close to $232 million after the 2025 season. By the time his contract is done, he’ll be closer to a billion, and that’s just from what he’s done on the field.

Off the field, he pulls in around $20 million annually from endorsements, partnering with major brands like State Farm, Adidas, Oakley, and Head & Shoulders.

He also holds a minority stake in MLB’s Kansas City Royals and has ownership investments in the MLS’s Sporting Kansas City and NWSL’s Kansas City Current.

His estimated net worth is currently around $160 million, among the highest of all professional athletes, and he’s still just 30 years old.
