BBC Journalist Says He Would“Truly Stunned”If One Player Makes Another Appearance For Man Utd

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford is unlikely to get a chance to revive his career at Old Trafford, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone.

The journalist has trusted sources at the Manchester club, and when asked about the possibility of the England international making another appearance for the Red Devils, Stone said:

“Carrick has made all the right noises around Rashford, but I would be truly stunned if he played for Manchester United again. I got the distinct impression from all sides last summer his career at Old Trafford was over…”

“I know the 15 June deadline for Barcelona to pay £26m for Rashford is looming, but it is clear they don’t want to do that deal. The key point is the three-week gap between England’s World Cup campaign ending and Rashford reporting back for pre-season. That is when I expect his future to be resolved.”

Why have Barcelona decided against keeping Rashford?

The La Liga champions are said to be unwilling to trigger their purchase clause for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, they have recently spent €80m (£69m) on another forward, Anthony Gordon, and secondly, Rashford’s wages would be an issue. It has been suggested that the 28-year-old would be open to taking a pay cut, but that wasn’t enough to persuade Barca into buying him. They would like to discuss another loan, but United are only interested in a permanent sale.

Could Man Utd sell him to another team?

At the moment, there isn’t any indication that Rashford is open to joining a club other than Barcelona, but that is something he will now have to consider.

A report back in April named Tottenham as a potential suitor, but there hasn’t been any suggestion since then that Spurs are prepared to step up their pursuit of the player.

As Stone points out, everything will now be put on hold until Rashford returns from the World Cup next month.
