The French superstar was assessed with a flagrant foul 1 in the third quarter of Game 4 between the Spurs and the New York Knicks. He hit Karl-Anthony Towns on the chin using his right elbow.
He now has three flagrant foul points in this postseason, as one more penalty will trigger an automatic one-game suspension.
One more unsportsmanlike foul to suspend Wemby 1 game in NBA Playoffs
The exact play happened during the 9:27 mark of the third quarter. As he was guarding Towns in the Knicks' offensive possession, Wembanyama suddenly hit the big man with an elbow upon swinging his right arm.
Towns remained on the ground after absorbing the hit, as Wembanyama was slapped with a flagrant 1 upon the referees' review.
Wembanyama was previously penalized with a flagrant 2 foul and an automatic suspension after blatantly hitting Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Reid during Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals. He evaded a suspension from the league office.
As such, he also committed a questionable, forceful shove last Game 3 of the NBA Finals against Jalen Brunson. Despite the backlash, the Spurs big man was not penalized by the NBA.
Wembanyama's flagrant foul situation now stands as a key storyline for the remainder of this year's Finals series, as a potential suspension will deliver a huge swing for both the Spurs and the Knicks.
